Territorial Guard Society
The society bestows various awards to honor achievements in the field of Indiana genealogy:
The society's Board of Directors is an elected body composed of officers (serving 2-year terms) as well as district directors (serving 3-year terms), who represent IGS members in each district of Indiana.
The society's bylaws detail how the society functions.
IGS welcomes genealogy groups from across the state to become part of a larger network, and enjoy the benefits of association with the Indiana Genealogical Society.
IGS has a lineage society, the Society of Civil War Families of Indiana, for members who can trace their descendancy from a Hoosier ancestor who served in the Union Army during the Civil War.
IGS is run by volunteers in various positions.
Each April the Indiana Genealogical Society holds a one-day conference and conducts an annual meeting of the membership.
IGS appoints individuals as Indiana County Genealogists to act as a liaison for genealogists in each county.
IGS annually bestows grants to genealogical organizations in Indiana.
Library Staff Educational Scholarship
IGS annually awards a scholarship to a library employee to help them increase their genealogical knowledge and thus better serve the public.

IGS maintains an updated listing of individuals who are willing to do on-site research in various areas of Indiana.
The Indiana Genealogical Society conducts a seminar at locations around the state. The seminar provides educational resources as well as the opportunity for genealogists to network.

The Indiana Genealogical Society has a lineage society, the Territorial Guard Society of Indiana, for members who can trace their descendancy from an ancestor who lived within the boundaries of present-day Indiana on or before December 11, 1816 (the date of Indiana statehood).
