Elaine Spires Smith Family History Writing Award

The Indiana Genealogical Society may award $500 annually for outstanding articles that are least 1,000 words (or a series of articles on the same topic that totals 1,000 words). Note: Abstracts, transcriptions, indexes or other forms of genealogy data are not eligible for consideration. The award is named after the late Elaine Spires Smith, the longtime editor of the IGS newsletter.

The Elaine Spires Smith Family History Writing Award for 2009 was given to Dawne Slater-Putt for her article, "Who Was Not Jessie's Father?" (PDF) .

Deadline:
Articles must be submitted to either the editor of the newsletter or the quarterly by December 31 of each year. The winner is recognized at the IGS annual conference in April.

Eligibility:
Membership in IGS is not required. Multiple submissions are welcome.

Judging:
The IGS Publications committee will judge all eligible entries and make a decision about the winner. IGS reserves the right not to bestow the award in a particular year.
