May 5--The Howard County (Indiana) Genealogical Society will meet at 6:30 pm in the Community Room of the Kokomo-Howard County Public Library. The meetings are open to the public.

May 10--The Genealogy & Local History Services Department of the Kokomo-Howard County Public Library will sponsor a Research Trip to Allen County Public Library. Participants will depart from the Kokomo library at 7 am and return at 8 pm. Registration opens on April 21. For more information, contact Marcia Ford--phone (765) 457-3242; e-mail mford@khcpl.org.

May 10-The Wabash Valley Genealogy Society will meet from 10 am to noon at the Vigo County Public Library in Terre Haute. LaVonne Waldron, Vikki Sordean and David Bonnett will present a program, "How To Prepare To Get Into A Lineage Group (DAR, SAR, Civil War, etc.)" The public is welcome to attend.

May 12-The Wabash Valley Genealogy Society will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Vigo County Public Library in Terre Haute. Jennifer Krockenberger will present a program, "Adoption and Orphanage Records." The public is welcome to attend.

May 14--The Allen County Genealogical Society of Indiana will meet at 7 pm in Room A of the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne. Marge Graham will present a program, "How to Retrieve Information from Other Sites," about how to do local research at the Allen County Public Library's Genealogy Center.

May 16--The Tri-County Genealogical Society (which represents Decatur, Franklin and Ripley counties) will sponsor a Research Lock-In from 5 to 11 pm at the Batesville Memorial Public Library in Ripley County. Researchers must be in the library before it closes at 5 pm and may stay until 11 pm. Society members will be on hand to assist researchers in locating materials. The Batesville library has resources covering Franklin, Decatur, Ripley, and Dearborn counties. Please call ahead to reserve computer time. May 17--The Daughters of the American Revolution will hold a workshop at the Kokomo-Howard County Public Library from 10 am to noon about the application process for joining DAR. May 17--The Northwest Indiana Genealogical Society will meet at 10 am at the Lake County Public Library in Merrillville, Indiana. Grace DuMelle, author, professional researcher and librarian at the Newberry Library in Chicago, will give a program on “Tips & Tricks for Cook County Vital Records”.

May 21--The Allen County Genealogical Society of Indiana's Computer Interest Group will meet at 7 pm in Room A of the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne. The group holds a roundtable discussion on the problems and aids of using computers to do genealogy research. Bring your "How do I...?" question for the group to help you with.

May 28-The Legacy Users Group of the Wabash Valley Genealogy Society will meet from 2 to 4 pm at the computer lab of the Vigo County Public Library in Terre Haute. Loran Braught, Mill Myers and David Bonnett will lead a discusion on the Legacy genealogy software. The public is welcome to attend.

June 14--The Genealogical Society of Marion County will meet at 1:30 pm at the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library's Irvington branch (5625 E. Washington St., Indianapolis IN). Librarian Darrol Pierson will speak on "Using Newspapers in Family History Research."

June 21--The Wabash Valley Genealogy Society will hold their first annual Seminar from 8 am to 5 pm at the Forsyth Program Center (1100 Girl Scout Lane, Terre Haute IN). The speakers will be: Kandie Adkinson, the Kentucky Secretary of State's Administrative Supervisor of the Land Office Division on Kentucky land-patenting process; Beau Sharbrough, Vice President of Content with Footnote.com speaking on Ancestry.com, preserving family photos and automated search tools such as GenSmarts, Google, etc.; and Shirley Richison Fields of the Indiana Genealogical Society will be speaking on Indiana Genealogical Society projects including "Once a Hoosier..." and Family Search Indexing. There will also be genealogy vendors and displays. Registration is $15, and an optional lunch can be ordered for an additional $5.

July 12-- Indiana Freedom Trails will meet from 11 am to 1 pm at the Indiana Historical Society in Indianapolis. The group is concerned with the history of the Underground Railroad in Indiana.

July 12--The Wabash Valley Genealogy Society will hold a program from 10 am to noon at the Vigo County Public Library in Terre Haute. David Benefiel will discuss "Southwest Indiana Pioneers." The public is welcome to attend.

July 14-The Wabash Valley Genealogy Society will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Vigo County Public Library in Terre Haute. Loran Braught will present a program on "What Will Happen To My Genealogy Collection?" The public is welcome to attend.

August 2--The Wabash Valley Genealogy Society will hold a program in Linton, Indiana. David Benefiel will lead a Southwest Indiana Pioneers Reunion. The public is welcome to attend.

August 4--The Howard County (Indiana) Genealogical Society will meet at 6:30 pm in the Community Room of the Kokomo-Howard County Public Library. The meetings are open to the public.

August 7--The Wabash Valley Genealogy Society will hold a 4-week series of Beginning Genealogy classes at the Vigo County Public Library in Terre Haute. Tom Isbell and Cindy Davidson will be the presenters. The public is welcome to attend.

August 9--The Genealogy & Local History Services Department of the Kokomo-Howard County Public Library will hold a workshop, "Genealogy Basics," from 9 am to 12:30 pm in their Community Room. October 18--The Illinois State Genealogical Society will hold its Annual Conference at the Fox Valley University and Business Center on the campus of Elgin Community College in Elgin, Illinois. The theme will be "40 Years of Discovery - Portals to the Future," in honor of their 40th anniversary. There will also be computer lab classes in effective web searching.
