Northwest Indiana Geneaogical Society Meeting - Valparaiso
The Northwest Indiana Genealogical Society, which represents Lake County and Porter County, will meet at 10 am at the Porter County Public Library in Valparaiso. Larry Clark, who is head of the library's Genealogy Department, as well as the Porter County Historian and Indiana County Genealogist for Porter County, will speak about the 1940 census and military lineage societies. The public is welcome to attend.
Indiana African American Genealogy Group Meeting - Indianapolis
The Indiana African American Genealogy Group will meet from noon to 3 pm at the Eiteljorg Museum in Indianapolis. From noon to 1 pm there will be a program, "Introduction to Ancestry.com, Familysearch.org, etc."
At 1 pm IUPUI Professor Dr. Modupe Labode will present the Leon Jett Memorial Lecture, "Jim Crow in the Mile-High City." In the lecture, Dr. Labode will discuss the ways in which African Americans living in Denver, Colorado confronted segregation in the city’s schools, parks, restaurants, and other public places from the late 1880's through 1940. After the lecture, there will be another program, "U.S. Federal Censuses." The public is welcome - IAAGG members receive free admission to the lecture; for non-members, the lecture is included in the general admission price to the museum.
