Submitted by Meredith Thompson
Source: This is an index of the divorce case filings that are listed in Hendricks County Entry Docket Book 11 (which covers June 1953 to March 1965) and Entry Docket Book 12 (which covers March 1965 to August 1975). The Hendricks County Clerks Microfilm Department is located on the 2nd floor of the Hendricks County courthouse in Danville, Indiana and can search for information on divorce cases. They can be reached by phone at (317) 745-9800.
Notes:
Until January 1, 1961, court cases were just assigned a sequential number. Beginning on January 1, 1961, the case number consisted of 2 digits for the year (e.g. 61 for 1961) followed by a dash and then the sequential number. This numbering system was further modified beginning in August 1963, when the designation S (for Superior Court) or C (for Circuit Court) was put in front of the year. Then beginning in June 1966, V was added to the C or S in the case number to indicate that the case was a change of venue.
Change of venue indicates that the case was originally filed in another county and then transferred to Hendricks County.
Separation or annulment indicates that these were cases where they were asking for a separation or an annulment, instead of a divorce.
