Source: Manual of the Public Schools of the city of Indianapolis [...] 1889-90 (Indianapolis: Sentinel Printing Co., 1889). This book is in the collection of the Genealogical Society of Marion County's Library (9370 E. Washington St., Indianapolis IN). The GSMC has an extensive collection of IPS staff directories; IPS itself has a more complete set of directories.
This database includes geographical descriptions of what school district each household would have been part of. NOTE: African-American students were assigned to their schools by the district staff; most “Colored” schools had indefinite boundaries. Some of the other schools also had indefinite boundaries.
This is a scanned file. It is in PDF format and requires the free Adobe Acrobat Reader in order to open it.
