Contributed by Marshall County Historical Society
Source: Handwritten forms in the collection of the Marshall County Historical Society. These forms were filled out by Marshall County Auditor Peter Hahn in the 1890's to keep track of the bounties the county had paid to residents for turning in the scalps of foxes they had killed. In the 19th century, foxes were considered harmful predators that killed farm animals including calves, lambs, chickens and ducks.
