Submitted by Randi Richardson

source: A Century of Development: Van Buren Township, Monroe County, Indiana (1940)

In 1934, the Van Buren Township Farm Bureau appointed a committee to try to secure a history of the township. The following persons, all residents of the township at the time, were selected as members: Mrs. Homer S. Pafford, Chairman; Dr. Rodney Smith; James A. Thrasher; Stella (Thrasher) McCoy; Mrs. Joseph Ferguson; Maude Burch. Mrs. Pafford was aided by her daughter, Mabel Pafford Hornocker. The information collected was submitted to the committee in 1938 and privately published by Mabel Pafford Hornocker in 1940. Distribution of this publication was limited, but copies can be found at the Monroe County History Center and the Monroe County Public Library in Bloomington, Indiana.
