Roster of Company G, 31st Indiana Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War (1861-1865)

Submitted by Randi Richardson, Monroe County Indiana County Genealogist

NOTE: This list comes from Company G, Monroe County's Contribution to the Civil War, which was a narrative written by Bennett P. Reed (1892-1966), who was at one time the editor of the Bloomington Herald Telephone. His story begins when the company was organized in 1861 and follows the soldiers and their leaders until they were mustered out in 1865. The men who died, either in battle or by disease, are noted by name within the narrative as the deaths occurred and their names are indexed at the back of the book.

Reed's narrative was published by the Monroe County Historical Society at an unspecified date. This 30-page book with comb binding may be of specific interest to those who have an ancestor who fought in Company G. It might also be of interest to others whose ancestors fought in other companies that were made up of men from Monroe County and the surrounding area. It is believed that copies of the book may still be purchased through the Monroe County History Center. For more information, contact the Monroe County History Center at (812) 355-5588.
