Projects

The Indiana Genealogical Society has several projects and welcomes your participation in them:

War of 1812 Pensions Digitization new

A national campaign to raise the money needed to digitize the War of 1812 pension files at the National Archives. From now until June 30, 2011, the Indiana Genelogical Society will match any donation to the project, up to the first $10,000.

1880 DDD Indexing

A project to index the information on the 1880 DDD schedules. The 1880 DDD (Defective, Dependent & Delinquent) Schedule was a supplemental schedule to the 1880 federal census. It listed additional information about individuals who had an entry in columns 15 through 20 of the population schedule, identifying them as disabled in some way. These 1880 DDD indexes are being added to the Members-Only section as databases.

2 for 92

A project to add at least 2 databases for each of Indiana's 92 counties to the Members-Only section. Submissions are welcome.

"...Always A Hoosier"

A project to record information on ancestors who were buried in Indiana (they did not have to be living in Indiana at the time of their death). This project is ongoing and is a companion to "Once A Hoosier..."

Indiana Marriage Indexing Project

A joint project of the Indiana Genealogical Society and the Genealogical Society of Utah. The goal is to create an Indiana marriage index that begins with each county's earliest surviving records and goes up to 1957. When finished, the index will be put online as a free searchable database.

"Once A Hoosier..."

A project to record information on ancestors who were in Indiana for some part of their lives but who died in other states. The project is ongoing and submissions for Volume III are now being accepted. Volumes I and II are available for purchase on the Shop page.

Records Preservation Project

A project to preserve and digitize probate records for Hendricks County, Indiana dating from 1824 to 1930. Volunteers and donations are needed.
