Index to Photographs in Yearbooks of Stinesville School, Monroe County, Indiana (1929-1939)

ABOUT THE SCHOOL:

In 1865, the Stinesville School was only a little log building. It burned to the ground a few years later. Then a frame, one-room building was constructed, and two rooms were added later. In 1903, a new school was built one-eighth mile north of the old one. This building was two stories high and contained four rooms. It was built of rough stone. In 1927, the number of rooms was increased to fifteen. In 1935, the school was completely destroyed by fire, but school resumed three days later in empty buildings and the lodge hall. A new school building was completed in the spring of 1937, and in the fall of that year nine high school students met for the first time in the building.

ABOUT THIS DATABASE:

• This is an index to all of the photos from all of the available yearbooks for the Stinesville School from 1929 (the earliest known yearbook) through 1939. This index does not include page numbers for the simple reason that none of the yearbooks during this period were paginated.
• The yearbooks are from the private collection of Ron and Mary Jane Baldwin, residents of Monroe County. The Monroe County History Center and the Monroe County Public Library also have collections of the yearbooks, but it is thought that the Baldwin collection is the most complete.
• In reference to the missing yearbooks, it is not known whether they were published for a given year or are simply not available in any collection. As additional volumes become available, however, they will be included in this index until all the yearbooks for Stinesville School have been indexed and those indexes made available on the IGS website.
