Grand Army of the Republic's Annual Encampment in Indiana (1906)

Contributed by General Van Rensselaer Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution

Source: Journal of the twenty-seventh annual session of the Department of Indiana Grand Army of the Republic, held at Lafayette, Ind. May 22, 23 and 24, 1906 (Indianapolis: Sentinel Printing Co., 1906)

The Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) was a fraternal organization for Civil War veterans, formed in 1866. Indiana GAR members and their auxiliary groups (including the Women's Relief Corps, or WRC) held a reunion each year (called an "encampment") at rotating sites in Indiana.
